inDrive needed a campaign that gave back to a community in need by uniting people towards a cause using the arts. The campaign needed to be relevant to a South African audience while communicating the brands core principle of fighting injustice.

Built on the insight that amapiano was the fastest growing genre in South Africa we created a campaign using upcoming musicians Khanyisa, Ice Beats Slide & Sbuda Ma Leather to help us taken on the challenge to light up Khayelitsha, an area where inadequate lighting has a history of creating unsafe spaces for residents. For every 2000 streams of the song, inDrive would donate 1 solar light to a community in Khaylitsha helping light up the streets and walkways.

The song, titled Layita Khayelitsha, which means Light Up Khayelitsha launched across streaming channels with an incredible response. With launch events at Rands, an amapiano venue in Khayelitsha as well as OOH and influencers the campaign recieved an incredible response from South Africans.

Results

The campaign was an incredible success, surpassing KPI’s as well as leaving residents of Khayelitsha feeling safer and more empowered after dark.
